Well, okay… One review. From a reader with an advanced copy given out by my publisher. I mean, the book’s not even out yet. But hey, it’s my first for THE LAIRD OF DUNCAIRN, and I couldn’t be more thrilled!

I am happy to reveal the cover of my forthcoming novel, THE LAIRD OF DUNCAIRN! (available in print May 2nd and eBook May 16th)
Here’s a bit about its origins, from an interview on the City Owl Press website:
THE LAIRD OF DUNCAIRN is set in Scotland, where I lived and studied history at University for a year. Having a chance to roam throughout the Highlands and live in an old, storied city such as Edinburgh was truly amazing. With its breathtaking glens and lochs, it’s easy to see why the country is often used for romantic settings.
But I didn’t set out to write a novel set in Scotland. I started with a character, a young orphaned girl who suffered at the hands of politicians hundreds of miles away. That situation reminded me of Scotland’s history with London, and the tale grew from there. The girl became half fey, part of a dying race oppressed by centuries of scathing propaganda.
Added in were creatures out of folklore, real-life historical figures, and, of course, crank-guns and dirigibles. Adventure and mystery sweep across the countryside in THE LAIRD OF DUNCAIRN, as auld creatures awaken and new discoveries are made that will rock civilization to its core.
Thanks to everyone involved! More exciting stuff to come!
Thought I’d share some awesome new teaser art for my soon to be released gaslamp fantasy novel, THE LAIRD OF DUNCAIRN! As final edits and marketing are underway, it’s getting real exciting around here! And thanks to Ben Thornton for these great images!

And in other news:
Since I haven’t in a while, I thought I’d share a little of what I’ve been working on lately.
- A Fey Matter has now become the series title for Effie and her adventures, with Book I entitled, The Laird of Duncairn. The book is due out in May from City Owl Press! Yay!
- Speaking of Laird, I finished my last round of content edits with the amazing and awesome, Heather McCorkle of City Owl, and now the book is off to the copy editor for a round of polishing.
- Book II of the series is well underway. I just crossed the 50,000 word mark. For the long-haul of a speculative fiction novel, that means I’m about halfway home! (I hope…)
- And last of all, I’ve finished reworking my YA novel, The Weird of Danika Ruck, to the point where I’m happy with sending it out into the great hopeful-sphere that is the novel submissions process!
It’s been a while since I’ve posted here, but I’m happy to return with the exciting news that City Owl Press has agreed to publish my new alternate history / gaslamp fantasy novel, THE FEY MATTER!
Set against the backdrop of 1882 Scotland, the novel follows a young, orphaned fey as she eludes the crown’s minions, matches wits against greedy lords, and battles an auld enemy of her people.
I’m super stoked to be working with City Owl Press and their great staff! More details to come, but now it is time for a happy dance!
Published in 2011, “Aelfie of Glen Coe,” follows the trials of an orphan girl roaming the Highlands of 1870’s Scotland. Hunted by the queen’s minions, and those who blame her kind for the woes of the Empire, she must tread carefully or find herself at the end of a rope…
